How to Clean and Maintain Your Rubber Paving

Maintain your Rubber Paving, Vancouver Safety Surfaces, Vancouver BC

Rubber paving is a great surfacing option for driveways, garages, playgrounds, patios, decks, and more. It’s inexpensive to install, is eco-friendly, and looks great with several different colors to choose from. The best thing about rubber paving though is its durability. It doesn’t matter if you have an entire surface paved with rubber or opt for rubber tiles, stones, or bricks – if you make sure your rubber surface receives the minimal care it needs, it’ll look as good as new for years.

Keeping Your Outdoor Rubber Paving Driveway Clean

Rubber paving is a great surface to have outdoors – it remains unaffected by the weather as it is meant to shift and flex without developing unsightly cracks despite freezing and thawing. However, as with any driveway, sidewalk or deck it is bound to collect dirt, leaves, bird droppings, tire marks, grease, and snow. Thankfully, keeping your outdoor rubber surface is really easy provided you take care to follow a few simple rules.

Ice and Snow:

Rubber paving doesn’t accumulate ice, so you can scratch de-icing your driveway right off your to-do list. Use a plastic shovel or a snow blower with plastic edges to clear snow. Metal can scratch your rubber paving so avoid using it to prevent damage.

Dirt and Leaves:

A soft bristled broom will do the trick when it comes to cleaning your rubber paving pool deck, walkway tiles, driveway or patio stones of dirt and leaves. You can also hose it down with your garden hose and let the sunshine dry it for that brand new feeling.

If you feel like giving your rubber paving a deep clean, a pressure washer is completely safe to use providing you use it on a low setting.

Oils, Stains, and Grease:

Any outdoor surface that sees heavy use is bound to accumulate stains from things like paint, oils, grease and more. Although rubber paving is less likely than concrete to cling on to these stains, you may need to clean it periodically to keep it looking fresh. Simple stains can be scrubbed out using soap and water.

DO NOT use acid-based products or strong solvents like acetate, ammonia, benzene, chlorine bleach, turpentine, or WD40 to clean it.

Maintaining Your Indoor Rubber Paving Surface

Indoor rubber paving surfaces are unlikely to get as dirty as those outdoors. Sweeping with a soft broom will keep it clear of dust. A simple solution of warm water and a mild soap usually gets rid of any water-soluble stains. If you have issues with damp indoors and have mold and mildew, simply soak the area with hydrogen peroxide for five minutes. Do the same with vinegar and then wipe it up with a clean cloth and  rinse with water. Easy, and eco-friendly too!

You can also use a vacuum cleaner to keep your indoor surface clean, just like you would any floor.
